Perry was born to Laurie Metcalf (actor) and Jeff Perry (actor). On the ABC sitcom Roseanne (as as seen through flashback) Her mother played Jackie Harris in two of Perry's early TV appearances. Because of their fear of stress, the parents were not keen to let her pursue acting before she reached the age of 18. Perry moved to New York, where she was offered small roles in shows like Law & Order: Criminal Intent. Homesickness then led Perry home to California and theater roles were in demand. The Other Place was performed by her and her mom in 2013 on Broadway in 2013 She performed with the father of her character Kevin McKidd and Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize winning drama Anna Christie in 2015 in the Odyssey Theatre Ensemble, West Los Angeles.
